It is situated on one of the oldest roads in Hornsea, just a pleasant 5-minute stroll from the seafront and the town centre. The cottage itself is over 200-years old and together with the adjoining coach house formed part of a large estate belonging to one of Hull’s ship building families. The property is spacious and has been tastefully decorated throughout including original local artwork. The beamed living room is cosy with its bay widow seat and coal effect fire. Both bedrooms are again spacious benefitting from a TV and en-suite facilities. A gated driveway and outdoor seating area provide a private spot to sit and relax.
A 5-minute walk takes you to the seafront, with its pretty landscaped promenade and sandy beaches. There is also a boat compound with launching facilities. The Leisure Centre is located on the seafront where you will find a heated swimming pool, gymnasium, squash courts and café. The cottage is also only a short walk from Hornsea Mere, Yorkshire’s largest freshwater lake which gave the area its name, ‘Lakeland by the Sea’. Along with the opportunity to see some wonderful wildlife you will find rowing, sailing boats and a small putting green. Hall Garth Park is also nearby, from here you could wander through the tree-lined park to the town centre, with its museum, small, independent shops, restaurants (including whiteheads - 2023 best uk fish and chip shop), alfresco cafe’s and bars. There is also a further selection of shops at Hornsea Freeport located at the other side of the town, with a children’s soft play area and bugtopia experience. As Hornsea is the finishing point for the Trans Pennine Way, the cottage provides the perfect base for cycling. There is a well maintained trail by the seafront which takes you along the old railway line, providing a largely level route with various adjoining countryside cycle tracks.
Hornsea is an unspoilt seaside town with an unassuming charm. It has everything you need for a seaside holiday and is close to the busier resorts of Bridlington and Scarborough. You could drive or catch a bus to the beautiful market town of Beverley, or visit Hull, the UK’s City of Culture 2017 and home to The Deep Aquarium.
