Set in an idyllic location next to the owner’s home on a 140-tree walnut plantation, with stunning views of the countryside and farm, with walnut trees surrounding the property. It is great for families, couples or small groups looking for a relaxing rural getaway. The Farmhouse is very historic and is estimated to have been built at or before the late 14th century. It is said the owner travelled and fought at the Battle of Agincourt. There are rumours of underground tunnels leading to another farm at the bottom of the valley, constructed for an escape in the frequent times of danger in the Welsh/English borderlands.
The Farmhouse lies in a heritage county just 1 mile outside Whitchurch, a busy village, with a thriving local shop and cafe, an Indian restaurant, several nearby pubs and restaurants, and two garages, both with small supermarkets. The next nearest town is Monmouth, an historical town just 6 miles from the farmhouse where you will also find two golf courses, shops, several churches, an historic independently-owned cinema, many pubs and restaurants, an ancient medieval covered bridge and the popular Nelson Museum. There is also a castle, near to the place where Henry V was born. The farm is also set on the edge of the beautiful Wye Valley, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and the Forest of Dean is very close by with walking, cycling, climbing, castle trails and many other activities.
Generously sized, the farmhouse contains three double bedrooms all situated on the first floor, and a single bedroom on the ground floor. The first bedroom benefits from an en-suite toilet, four poster bed and an ancient cruck beam constructed before 1450, when the type of building was replaced with other methods. The second bedroom contains a super kingsize sleigh bed, rocking chair and a large dressing area for your ease and comfort. The third bedroom is a small double room with wonderful views of the surrounding countryside. A good-sized family bathroom is also located on the first floor with a double shower and luxurious spa bath.
There is a 14th-century Norman entrance doorway and a beautiful living area with beams running throughout, a large wood burner and historic bread oven dating back to the 14th-century, the perfect place to relax and unwind after a long day. The dining room is a great space for getting together and enjoying a meal whilst admiring the carved decorative oak fireplace. The kitchen has a breakfast area and you can access the garden from this room. The farmhouse also has a private sitting-out area with barbecue. The large garden, adjacent to a field with donkeys in, has a pond and small waterfall, plus a gigantic walnut tree, which provides buckets of walnuts in the autumn, and there is also a small apple orchard adjoining. Visits to feed or brush the donkeys can be arranged with the owner, and guests can walk through the walnut plantation as they wish and have a picnic under the trees whilst gazing at the beautiful landscape and astounding views. The views of the countryside are magnificent and on a clear day, it is possible to see for miles in almost every direction. There is an abundance of wild birds, pheasants, owls and birds of prey that appear on the farm regularly. Shop, pub and restaurant 1 mile.
