Stay in a cozy log cabin located on Shaffer Mountain, a perfect retreat from a busy life. In Bedford County this is located on a flyway for migrating birds. The Allegheny Plateau Audubon Society (APAS) has a Hawkwatch site nearby that is open to visitors during migration
The cabin has an open plan downstairs with a great room, kitchen and view of Bedford County plus a quiet bedroom with a full bed; a small loft has twin beds.

Summary: My husband and I had a lovely stay. The gorgeous view alone would have been plenty, but the entire place was cozy, well-furnished, comfortable, clean, charming, and quiet. Had a great time trying to spot birds in the trees with kindly provided binoculars—which was just the kind of low-key activity we were looking for. It exceeded our expectations.
