4 Bedroom House in West Highland, Denver
Summary:
Built in the 1920s, this brick bungalow is utterly marvelous. You’ll find everything updated inside – except for the historic charm, that is! Four bedrooms and three bathrooms are perfect for families and groups. The finished basement and beguiling backyard add variety and appeal to this Highlands stay. Located on a leafy street, the home is walking distance from LoHi, where you will find eateries, breweries, and shopping. Easy highway access takes you to the mountains in less than an hour!
The Space:
Start your stay by stepping up to a roomy patio, complete with a porch swing and a view of the front lawn and the neighborhood’s mature trees. Though the facade will take you back to yesteryear, inside you will find every modern comfort and convenience, including lightning-fast WiFi. The decor is polished, as are the wood floors. Accent lighting, sprawling furniture and a stunning floor plan are just a few of the highlights here.
Kick back in the main living room and enjoy streaming content on the Smart TV or chatting with your travel mates. The living room leads beautifully to the dining area and kitchen, creating a free-flowing ambience. The kitchen is crafted to impress with its sleek design, new appliances and natural light. If you prefer to whip up your own meals during your stay, we have supplied everything you need. There is a fantastic local grocery store, Leevers Locavore, just a few blocks away.
The large master bedroom features a king mattress, while the three additional bedrooms have a queen, two twins and a pull-out couch respectively. Scope out the photos to get a feel for the individual character of each space! The home also contains three bathrooms, which is almost unheard-of in a historic house. The master bath is a full bathroom with a tub, and the other two have showers so that everyone can get ready for your busy day or unwind after your adventures. The basement is large and fully finished, with a play area for kids, a large L-shaped couch and a Peloton.
Sure, it’s gorgeous inside, but once you see the backyard, you’ll want to spend all your time relaxing in the garden-like atmosphere. A picnic table resides under a leafy trellis. A huge outdoor couch and Adirondack chairs invite you to put your feet up and enjoy a local microbrew on a warm summer evening. This is truly an oasis with surprises around every corner!
Everything you’ve heard about The Mile High City is true! The booming metro area has something for every kind of traveler. Soak in Western history at a museum, revel in cutting-edge culture at Meow Wolf, tempt your tastebuds at chic local restaurants and mind-blowing microbreweries, enjoy parks and greenways throughout the city, bag a 14er and a National Park, or ski at world-class resorts. This is the place to explore, play or even – if you must – get some work done on a business trip or flexcation. We’re looking forward to hosting you!

Guest Access:
Our guests will have access to the entire home, including the backyard. We offer self check-in for maximum independence and privacy.
Free street parking is readily available in the neighborhood.
The Neighborhood:
Our home is located in the Potter Highlands Historic District, close to Downtown and a mere 20-minute walk from the hip Lower Highlands (LoHi) neighborhood, a popular locale for strolling, dining and imbibing in Denver. We already mentioned Leever’s Locavore, a gourmet grocery store specializing in all things natural, local and organic. For low-key, innovative and delicious Mexican eats, we love Tacos Tequila Whiskey. You can walk there in 10 minutes and it’s close to lovely Highland Park. In LoHi, depending on your mood, we recommend Senor Bear, Postino LoHi, Little Man Ice Cream and Zuni Street Brewing Company.
Nearby attractions include the Downtown Aquarium, a really great way to spend an afternoon among fish, sharks, tigers and more. Consider reaching downtown via the Denver Millennium Bridge, and don’t forget to snap a picture on this cool local landmark. Elitch Gardens amusement park is near downtown as well. Denver is unusual in that most of its major sports teams play downtown at Empower Field at Mile High (Broncos), Coors Field (Rockies) and Ball Arena (Nuggets and Avalanche). They’re all fantastic places to take in a sporting event if the timing works out during your stay! We especially love Coors Field, which is a beautiful stadium with local beer on tap, mountain views and more.
Closer to home, in addition to Highland Park, you can get your outdoor fix at Sloan’s Lake Park. The neighborhood around the park is an awesome place to explore as well. North of our neighborhood is the Tennyson Street Cultural District in Berkeley, yet another knockout Denver locale.
If you’re cruising around Downtown, get oriented at Union Station, which has been reimagined as a cultural hub with cafes, art and shopping. From Union Station, Coors Field is within walking distance to the North, while Ball Arena (Nuggets and Avalanche) is to the South. Trendy Larimer Street is also nearby. You can catch a light rail train at Union Station to get to Empower Field at Mile High. The 16th Street Mall offers a free shuttle, which is the best way to get to the Denver Performing Arts Center as well as the State Capitol and Denver Mint.
Further East, it’s a short Uber ride to City Park, Denver Zoo, Denver Museum of Nature & Science, the Botanical Gardens, and other attractions. The new Meow Wolf art experience is also worth checking out, as are the Denver Aquarium and Elitch Gardens. All three are near Empower Field and the REI Flagship store.
Here for a concert? Red Rocks is a mere 20 minutes away by car. You may want to check out this area regardless of your itinerary – it’s a unique place, and its gateway town of Morrison is charming. Link up an easygoing riverside hike at Lair O’ The Bear or an afternoon paddleboarding or skating in Evergreen to really make a day of it. Further south, you’ll find Roxborough State Park (40 minutes) for more hiking trails. One of Colorado’s main draws is Rocky Mountain National Park, which makes for a great day trip. Drive 1.5 hours through a dramatic canyon for a day of hiking, sightseeing and wildlife viewing.
Depending on your destination, skiing is 1-3 hours away. Locals head to Echo Mountain, Eldora (near Boulder) or Loveland (near Georgetown) for a more low-key experience, but we’re also within a few hours of Arapahoe Basin, Breckenridge, Copper Mountain and other snowy delights. There is a Nordic center near Breck if you want to try out cross-country skiing, and the summer months are a great time to rent a kayak to explore Dillon Reservoir.
In short, this is the perfect jumping-off point for exploring the best of Denver and the Rockies! It’s impossible to see everything in one visit, so we look forward to hosting you again after you fall in love with Mile High Life!
Getting Around:
How long does it take to walk to –
- Highland Park - 17 Minutes
- Leever’s Locavore - 13 Minutes
- Zuni Street Brewing Company - 22 Minutes
- Denver Millenium Bridge - 30 Minutes
- Downtown Aquarium - 30 Minutes
This is a walkable neighborhood and getting around is even easier if you snag one of the rental bikes scattered around town. Denver has an excellent light rail network, which you can pick up at Union Station Downtown. Prefer to do your exploring on foot? Lower Downtown (LoDo) and the River North (RiNo) Arts District are both great choices for strolling, sipping microbrews and checking out the culinary scene.
The 16th Street Mall offers a free shuttle that will take you roughly from Union Station to the Colorado State Capitol. If you drive Downtown, we recommend giving yourself some extra time to find parking. City Park and its attractions – Denver Zoo, Museum of Nature & Science, etc. – offer free parking, as does the Denver Botanical Garden on York Street. The Botanical Garden also has a location at Chatfield Farms, a short drive away, which offers festive fun during the fall and winter seasons.
Driving is the best way to explore the mountains, although there are also some ski shuttle companies in the area. We strongly advise against relying on Lyft and Uber in the mountains! However, both services are readily available in the Denver Metro area. If you are hanging around town, a combination of walking, ride shares, and light rail will probably get you where you need to go.
