Positive: Lodge was roomy and in a great location, only a ten minute drive from Tesco, which was handy. There was also a bus stop just outside the park if you don't have a car. Coffee sachets were provided along with one single tea bag. A carton of long life milk was left out for us as well as some crisps and cookies. Shower was good, plenty of extra towels in the main bedroom drawers. Book case was a nice touch and there was a chest of board games.

Negative: We, and apparently the owners, were unaware that the holiday park the lodge is a part of had closed down a few months previously. Although this did not affect us being able to access our lodge, it did mean that the reception, bar restaurant, outdoor pool, mini golf and kids play area were all closed off and unable to use. I don't know what would have happened if we had needed any urgent maintenance as there was no one working on site. There were just notices stuck on the doors of reception to tell us the site had gone into receivership. On the plus side, this did make for a quiet stay as there were very few guests staying at the few privately owned lodges like this one. Some noise from Waterhouse Castle with workers mowing grass etc in the mornings, theme park music and general crowds/kids. Thankfully not too bad and always quiet by early evening. Definitely could have been cleaner. Some mould in the corners of the shower. Lots of dust on the slatted boiler door. General dirt between the edge of the mattress and the bedframe. There was also an open carton of milk left in the fridge presumably left over from the last guests. Due to the park being closed, the surrounding are beginning to get rather overgrown. Looks like there should be stairs going down towards the castle, but can only go a little way before they're covered by brambles and completely impossible to get past. The welcome book said there was a Smart TV, but if there was, it was lost on me. Free view and a few DVDs was fine for the chilly evenings. The welcome book did also seem to think the The Beach House had a different name, so probably in dire need of an update. Whirlpool bath does not work. Just a bath with holes in it.
