Positive: The home is in a beautiful part of the Snowy Mountains - no argument there. A short walk to the lake and it is incredibly peaceful.
Negative: There were several cleanliness and maintenance issues that impacted our stay. There was noticeable dust on most surfaces, and the windows appeared not to have been cleaned for some time. Cobwebs were present throughout the property. The backyard had clearly not been maintained recently — there was a weed approximately chest-high (I am 6 ft tall), which suggested the area had not been mowed in a long time. The BBQ had not been cleaned or maintained, with the plate covered in dirt and leaves. In the dining area, the lazy Susan contained condiments with questionable use-by dates. For example, the maple syrup indicated it should be used within 84 days of opening, but there was no opening date marked, so it was unclear whether it was still safe to use. There was also no coffee provided upon arrival — only an empty jar that had once contained coffee. We assumed they just wanted our credit card to cover the cost of any damages if found. We were surprised to learn, only after paying the full balance, that $500 would be suspended from our account as a damage bond. At that point, it was too late to cancel without losing the entire payment. While we understand the need for a bond, this was poorly communicated at the time of booking and confronting, especially given the existing condition of the property. For example, the carpet had visible waves that created a trip hazard and raised concerns about how effectively it could be cleaned. The bins had not been emptied and were left at the bottom of the entry stairs, which caused an unpleasant smell. The bin collectors came that morning, so it was disappointing that this was not addressed by the cleaners. Finally - given it was Christmas, it would have been nice to have some kind of Christmas welcome into the home. Even a miniature tree, a Christmas card - something to make us feel at home.
