Positive: Lovely apartment in a great area of Bordeaux. Quirkily decorated and spotlessly clean. The long climb up a winding staircase is so worth it for the views across the rooftops and sound of church bells.The host was efficient and responsive during our stay despite what later happened.
Negative: We would have given this lovely apartment ten stars had it not been for the unpleasant experience around the 'credit card capture' - only vaguely mentioned in booking.com's terms and conditions with no specified amount. We received a Whats App message from the host a few days before arrival when full payment had been made to booking.com, giving us no option but to comply, informing us that a credit card imprint was required for a pre-authorised amount as security against damage and would be held for up to seven days after departure - 500E for 3 nights or more! This large amount shoud be clarified on booking.com. When I pointed out that I knew nothing about this and didn't feel comfortable having such a large amount in limbo the host assured me that she would remove the card capture on the day of our departure. I have no doubt that she did but as she uses Stripe the pending payment still took ten days to drop off our pending transactions. A totally unacceptable way of doing it - we have stayed in many properties, equally nice, who have never asked for such a high amount and deposits paid were in cash which is returned on the day of departure after checks. The whole stressful situation was made worse by the host who advised us that her removal of the block would make the transaction disappear. When it didn't and I sent messages of concern because I genuinely thought there may be a problem I encountered defensiveness and an abrupt lack of concern. She both accused my bank of being at fault and incompetent and insinuated I thought she was lying. In fact 7 - 10 days is standard with Stripe on such transactions as I now know from several calls to the bank at my time and expense, something I don't want to have to do when I come home from a holiday. The capture was taken on 19th September and the 500E - £443! - wasn't back in my funds until the 29th.
Summary: Recommend the apartment, it's perfect, but buyer beware around the card capture procedure.
