Positive: Nice room with firm but comfortable bed and enough coverings to keep warm at night (as wooden bungalow is uninsulated so nights get cold!) There was a mosquito net provided for the bed but no need to use it at this time of year (Jan) as it turned out. Bathroom was a bit basic but served the purpose fine; fixtures and fittings in bedroom likewise. Nice balcony with lovely view across the river and nice seating/hammocks a bonus. All told I thought it was excellent value and I was very happy with my choice. I picked up on an earlier reviewer's mention of organising a boat ride upriver to Sop Chem village and kayaking back and organised this through my host. Cost was 450,000 kip, but I was sent off with another non-English-speaking boatman, so it was very much a non-guided excursion. He kept an eye on me (long range!) as I kayaked back but if you think you may want to bail out before you get all the way back to Muang Ngoi (which took me nearly 2 hours as an inexperienced kayaker) maybe discuss this option with the host before he sends you off, as I had found I had no real choice but to go the whole distance (and luckily made it!!!)
Negative: The only thing that caused me minor inconvenience is that the wall sockets in the bedroom had holes too large to snugly plug my slim-2-pin charger into, so I couldn't leave devices charging in my room. There was however a spare (horizontal) socket on the shelf in the restaurant area that you could leave things plugged into for charging purposes - just not quite so handy (or secure), obviously.
